The isi-agu (lion head) is a traditional top which resembles the African dashiki. Isi-agu (or Ishi-agu) is usually patterned with lions heads embroidened over the clothing.The attire is worn by chieftaincy title holders in Igbo land, Nigeria. It is worn with trousers and can be worn with either a traditional title holders’ hat – okpu agu or agwu -, or with the traditional Igbo stripped men’s hat.
However, these days anything can be transformed into a fashion piece for both male and female. The isi-agu, is traditionally worn by Igbo men buh of recent has now be converted into statement outfits by women. The fabric now comes in different styles, apart from the dashiki – shift dress, gowns, wrapper etc.
